St. Petersburg Parks and Recreation

"It Starts In Parks"

There are 137 parks on approximately 2,300 acres of public land is dedicated to parks and recreation including a seven mile preserved waterfront, a botancial garden, a palm arboretum, skate parks, nature preserves, beaches and the 47-mile Pinellas Trail.

Waterfront parks emerged one hundred years ago with the preservation of our waterfront by our forefathers, William Straub, Peter Demens and Perry Snell. They wanted every resident and visitor to have access to the waterfront. In the 1950’s the first recreation center began with a lawn bowling and shuffleboard club at Mirror Lake. St. Petersburg became known for its many beautiful parks and recreation facilities.

As St. Petersburg grows, so do the opportunities for activity in all its neighborhoods. The legacy continues today with 17 recreation facilities, 9 swimming pools, over 150 parks, over 70 athletic fields, with programming for all ages and abilities.

St. Petersburg Parks and Recreation has a long standing tradition of providing residents and visitors with quality of life amenities.

The World's Longest Fishing Pier

Florida Fishing and Boating Lifestyle

Some of the worlds best fishing grounds is just minutes away from Water Club Snell Isle at the Skyway Fishing Pier State Park in St. Petersburg, Florida.

Skyway Fishing Pier State Park

As one of Florida's most popular State Parks, the Skyway Fishing Pier is located in 3 counties on Tampa Bay. This unique fishing location is in between St. Petersburg and Bradenton and is accessible only through I-275.

The Skyway Fishing Pier has two piers to choose from depending on the direction you are coming from on I-275. The South Fishing Pier is actually the longest fishing pier in the world and has parking for about 571 automobiles. The North Fishing Pier has parking for over 200 automobiles.

Anglers and sight seers can enjoy the Skyway Fishing Pier 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Visitors can expect to pay an admission fee of $4.00 per car plus $4.00 per adult, $2.00 per child ages 6-12, and children 5 & younger are free! Visitors can also enjoy kayaking, swimming, wading, kite surfing and other water activities but the activities mostly revolve around fishing.

The Skyway Fishing Pier also has a complete bait store with rod rentals, souvenirs, snacks, and restrooms. One good idea is to pack your own food as the bait shops sells convenience store style goods like drinks, bags of chips, ice cream, hot coffee, etc.

The bridge is lighted at night, so anglers can see to rig a line, bait the hook, and get a good look at their catch. The light also attracts many species of fish after sundown. Common catches include snook, tarpon, grouper, black sea bass, Spanish mackerel, king mackerel, cobia, sheepshead, red snapper, pompano, and many more. Snacks, drinks, bait, and fishing supplies are available. The pier is open 24 hours a day year-round. Located north and south of the Skyway Bridge on I-275 (U.S. 19).

Types of Fish

Water Club Snell Isle residents have direct access to Tampa Bay and The Gulf of Mexico, home to some of the worlds best fishing grounds. Some of the common catches anglers can see include snook, grouper, black sea bass, king mackerel, cobia, spanish mackerel, pompano, red snapper, tarpon, with kingfish in the deep water around the piers and many more different varieties.

Conveniently adjoining the St. Petersburg Yacht Club Snell Isle Marina, Water Club Snell Isle offers its own dedicated docks and boat slips for residents who enjoy the Florida Boating Lifestyle !
